Group of Sheep Stranded on Thin Ice Rescued
A group of sheep that were stranded on a thin piece of ice were successfully rescued by firefighters in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred near the village of Haddenham in Buckinghamshire, England. The river below the ice was swollen from recent heavy rains and melting snow, which had caused the ice to break away from the bank.
The firefighters arrived on the scene at around 2:30am and used specialist equipment to rescue the sheep. They were transported one-by-one to safety and did not appear to be injured.
Local resident Sue Wright, who witnessed the rescue, said: "It was amazing to see how quickly they got them all off the ice and onto dry land. I'm just glad that everyone managed to stay safe."
This is not the first time that firefighters have had to rescue animals from dangerous situations. In November 2017, they saved a horse that had become stuck in a muddy ditch in Northamptonshire, and in March 2018 they helped a cow that was stranded in a pool of water in Leicestershire.
Flock of Geese Found Stranded on Frozen Lake
A flock of geese was found stranded on a frozen lake in Wisconsin. The geese were unable to fly away because the ice was too thick.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was called to the scene. They used a boat to reach the geese and herd them off the frozen lake.
"It's not uncommon for waterfowl to get stuck on lakes when they're not frozen over," said a DNR spokesperson. "But it is unusual for them to stay stuck for so long."
The spokesperson added that the DNR would continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance if needed.
1,000 Ducks Rescue Stranded flock of Sheep
A flock of sheep was stranded on a small island in the middle of a river. A local farmer saw the sheep and knew he had to help. He called his friends, and they came with their boats to rescue the sheep.
The farmer and his friends used their boats to get close to the island. Then they used long bamboo poles to push the sheep into the boats. It was a lot of work, but they managed to rescue all 1,000 sheep.
The farmer was very happy that he could help save the sheep. He said it was a team effort, and that everyone worked together to get the job done.
200 Turkeys Save Flock of Hens from Freezing to Death
A flock of hens was saved from freezing to death by a group of 200 turkeys. The turkeys were able to keep the hens warm by huddling around them.
The hens were in danger of freezing to death after their coop's heating system failed. The turkeys, who normally live in the same coop, were able to keep the hens warm by forming a huddle around them.
"The turkeys just came up and started surrounding the hens and keeping them warm," said farmer Ed Baer. "I've never seen anything like it."
The farmers says that the temperature inside the coop was below freezing for over 12 hours, but that the hens were kept warm by the turkeys.
The farmers say that the incident has taught them a valuable lesson about how smart turkeys can be.
"I used to think of turkeys as just dumb animals, but now I know that they're actually quite smart," said Baer. "They clearly understood what was happening and acted to save the hens."
Pig Herd Rescues Sheep from Icy River
Nearly 300 pigs from a nearby farm came to the rescue of a flock of sheep that had fallen into an icy river in China.
The heroic pigs pushed and pulled the sheep to safety before wading back into the frigid water themselves.
According to local media, the sheep had wandered off the edge of a frozen river in Tongchuan city and fallen through the ice.
The panicked sheep were stuck in the icy water for over two hours before help arrived.
But fortunately, they were saved by a group of pigs who lived close by.
